The big picture: unpacking the impact sports had on life

So much of what occurs during sports translates into broader life lessons - time management, relationship skills, managing disappointments and a healthy dose of perseverance. But it isn't easy to get there. If you're struggling to handle all of sport and life's many demands, then counseling can be a way to sort through your discomfort and move towards growth.

Sorting It All Out...

I'm sorry to say, but there isn't a playbook on how to handle being an athlete off the field. Expectations. Academics. Social Life. Family and Friends. It seems that everyone wants something from you and there simply isn't enough hours in the day.

You are at risk of burn-out and lost your joy for the game. Something has to give!

For student-athletes, you have the academic requirements to go along with your athletic commitments. If you don't do this right, then life can go off track in a heartbeat. It isn't uncommon for athletes to feel highly anxious and overly stressed during busy seasons. We have already identified you have a lot going on!

Professional athletes might be getting paid, but there is no shortage of stress and pressure. Navigating being an athlete for your career is not as glamorous as it appears and you can't keep feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome at bay.

You may no longer be a student or pro, but you still identify as an athlete. I happen to believe, once an athlete always an athlete. Competing for fun keeps you engaged and fit, but you find you still feel like something is missing. You notice you have replaced some of your healthy habits with unhealthy ones, with no idea your next steps to wholeness.

Counseling is the perfect place to safely play out a variety of scenarios - maybe you just need to rediscover the passion that's gone or maybe it is time to shift away from some behaviors. Let's work together to help you get to the bottom of it and find the best path forward.
