I'm Megan – Your Go-To Therapist for Athletes
Nice to meet you.
Here is where you learn a little more about me.
Growing up, I played basketball and soccer competitively, and I’m proud to have played Division 1 soccer at Western Carolina University. Upon graduating from college, I coached high school and club soccer, with a short stint as a tennis coach. From being on the sideline, to cheering from the stands, the energy and camaraderie of athletic pursuits never fails to inspire and humble me. I spent three years working in local collegiate and professional athletics before finding my passion for helping others as a school counselor. My time in education is the building block for this practice and where I learned to never take for granted the impact I can have on someone’s life.
Why Therapy?
This may be the first therapy page you've landed on or the 20th. Regardless, finding the right fit is tough - but I'll let you in on a secret: I already know you're tough too. Wanna know how I know? Because you're an athlete. Of course athletics take physical stamina, but they take mental stamina too. If you show up for this process with the same spirit that you bring to the court or field, I have no doubt that together we can address whatever is bothering you.
What does it feel like to work with me?
Simply put, it feels like chatting with a friend, but
a friend who really knows their stuff.
My style is highly relational and I truly want to learn all about you. My goal in therapy is for you to feel safe and secure, working hard to earn your trust. Part of how I do that is recalling small details that you may have shared or by validating an emotion that feels hard (all emotions are accepted). The 50 minutes we share together is all about you. That might feel strange at first, but my clients always end up appreciating the dedicated time to focus on themselves. Take the leap of making YOU a priority for once. It's always worth it.
What is Modern Therapy?
Modern therapy is an approach that is tailored to your needs, utilizing evidence-based interventions and strategies that align with each individual person. Think cognitive behavioral therapy, with a dose of brain health teaching, sprinkled in with solution- focused or mindfulness practices. A mixed bag of tricks if you will! I am a lifelong learner and keep in the know of the latest research, theories, and practices in mental health. It's important to me that my clients are getting the best care I have to offer.
As a modern therapist, I approach my work with realness, directness, and collaboration. I love being on your team! I appreciate the diverse backgrounds and identities of my clients, celebrating each person's uniqueness and all you have to offer this world.
I am a practicing Christian and offer integrated Christian counseling upon request, as I welcome all spiritual disciplines and honor the ability to choose your own faith journey. Together, we can explore how your beliefs support or hinder how you are showing up in life each and every day.
